Several institutions and organizations—political, cultural, educational and health—make their home or headquarters in Pippy Park’s southern parkland. Many of their facilities provide interesting attractions and programming events for visitors to Pippy Park.
City of St. John's
The City of St. John’s partners with Pippy Park in numerous events and activities including the Winter Activity Centre (operating from North Bank Lodge). The municipality also operates the Long Pond ‘Splash’ Facility. The facility provides summer rentals and kayaking, canoeing and sailing lessons. The City contracts some of its grounds-keeping activities to the Pippy Park Commission.
College of the North Atlantic
The province’s public college—one of the largest post-secondary educational and skills training centres in Atlantic Canada—has one of its 17 campuses situated in the southeast part of Pippy Park.
Health Sciences Complex
Located on the university campus west of Long Pond, this health complex comprises a teaching hospital, the Janeway Children’s Health and Rehabilitation Centre, and Women’s Health Centre.
Government of Newfoundland and Labrador
The provincial government is one of our primary partners. Pippy Park is home to the Confederation Building: the Provincial Legislature (the House of the Assembly) and
main location of provincial government offices.
Memorial University of Newfoundland
Pippy Park affords a striking parkland setting for Atlantic Canada’s largest university and its various institutes. Students, faculty and staff regularly take advantage of the many trails in Pippy Park.
National Research Council Institute for Ocean Technology
The world’s largest ice tank is located in this facility for groundbreaking research and development in ocean technologies. The institute is located on the university campus in the Park’s southern section.
St. John’s Arts & Culture Centre
Offering a wide variety of provincial, national, and international arts programming in two theatres, and home to one of the province’s public libraries, this provincial government facility is located on the Prince Philip Parkway.
